Artists Statement

 

I am a recent graduate of a Fine Art and Intergrated Media BA Hons ataining a 1st. I am interested in pushing the art of stencil making to new levels. For some time now I have been feeling somewhat restricted by the confines of the canvas. I have made various attempts to break free from its limitations and explore other materials and textures.

This year has been all about other people’s participation and interactions whilst applying the paint to my stencils. I have useg Action Painting as a way to bring people together and have taken a step back from my role as an artist to give people a unique experience and a direct involvement in creating artworks. My technique has developed from a controlled application from myself to more action and performance based work where paint has been applied by using footballs dipped in paint, handprints, paint squeezed straight from the containers and water-pistols.

I am also in the early experimental stages of disposing from the traditional cut out stencils and I am attempting to use people as the stencil. The early experiments for these projects have both gone down extremly well and created some fantastic results. I intend on exploring this method further to create more elaborate human stencils.
