About me

Having been into drawing all my life, it wasnt until very recently that I have come into my own and be in the position to show my work to the public and offer it up for sale. It was my brother Ian who first got me into art, he would spend many hours with me teaching me how to draw in 3D, showing me how the light effects how the shadow falls and as much as knew about muscle tone. He taught me many tricks but above all he taught me to constantly push myself. Sadly i lost my brother at the young age of 40. This had a devistating effect on me and pushed me into a downward spiral and it was in my art that i took what refuge i could find. It was due to a great deal of dedication and compassion that my familyand close friends were able to help me find the strenght and self belief to go on and do an Art degree. It is this chain of events that has led me to the here and now.

Influences

One of my influences comes from Jackson Pollock. Pollock pioneered a technique in which he was to drip, splash and dribble paint directly onto canvas to create works of art that were purely abstract. Although I personally find many of his works to be too chaotic I still found myself deeply moved by his paintings and his works have changed my style of painting forever. It was to prove a challenge to somehow use his technique without imitating him.

My next influence came whilst I was on a collage trip to London. It was here that i was taken to see a great many galleries and had my eyes opened to the sometimes spectacular, often outrageos and frequently humbling works of art. It was not here that i was to find my next influence but on the streets of south London. I spent a day walking the streets and seeking out the graffifi on the walls. Dispite not being the best picture i saw, a picture of David Cameron with a Hitler moustache made a huge impact on me. I used this picture over the next few months to make prints and other works. It was during this period that i was to finally be able to make the connection and draw together the works of Pollock and the world of graffiti. Over the last few months I have been researching and creating stencils and using Pollock's drip/splash technique to create paintings that hopefully different enough to stand out from the crowd.
